Mound Chapel Church of God

We Believe...

At Mound Chapel we keep things pretty simple. We prefer to focus on those things we have in common with the global Christian community rather than try to distinguish ourselves from one another.

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). We believe Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the Savior of the lost world.

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit to write words of Scripture. Therefore, the Bible is without error.

We believe the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, salvation only occurs when a person places his faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for his sin.

We believe every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word and daily yielding to the Spirit, every believer will mature and become conformed to the image of Christ.

We believe the church is the body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The members are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to a lost world.

Pastor Ted Smith

Outreach, discipleship, and preaching are Pastor Ted’s passions. Most people say Pastor Ted makes God's Word easier to understand. That's because he keeps things fairly simple and most importantly, he explains how we can apply God's Truths in our every day lives.

“For years I have been serving where God has lead me and in the process I have been extremely blessed. I find it interesting my professional and spiritual positions have been converging to this point in time and I am confident God placed me at Mound Chapel for His purpose.” He loves to serve God by serving others and is constantly seeking venues in which he can reach those who do not yet know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and to help others growth in their walk with Christ.

Pastor Ted has an extended background in several ministry areas including music, drama, and hospital chaplaincy.  One of his greatest outreach passions is his ministry to the women’s prison in Decatur. He and his team have lead a regular worship service  each month for over ten years. In addition he has taught a Bible study class to literally hundreds of the ladies over the years. Pastor Ted received the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Decatur Correctional Center in 2012.

For a pastime, Pastor Ted enjoys playing golf when he gets a chance and he performs 1950s and 60s music in a band called Kidd Kaddilac and the Continentals that grew out of a seniors’ event at one of his previous churches.      (Either that or he's at Starbucks!)
